Who We Are...

The Kuji Foundation is a non profit organization founded by Jimmy Harris, Ed Jones, and geronimo ji Jaga in 1999. The organization is volunteer based and is guided by the principles of the Nguzo Saba. These are: Umoja, Kujichagulia, Ujima, Ujamaa, Nia, Kuumba, and Imani. We take our name from the principle of Kujichagulia, which means "self determination."

We are able to do our work through the generous support of a global community, active in the struggle to help people help themselves. To this end, who Kuji is can be answered by looking around your own community. We are the people who believe in hard work, in doing for self, in building neighborhoods, communities, and nations. We are barbers, fishermen, craftsmen, students, teachers, lawyers, doctors, politicians, soldiers, and volunteers. We are husbands and fathers, wives and mothers, sisters and brothers. We are family. But we are also an organization, a coalition, a movement and a struggle.

Come join us by joining our movement. You do not have to work with Kuji directly, just find a local organization in your community that is doing positive work that you believe in. Then join them. Become a part of the work to build your own community and as our efforts multiply we will all join together in the building of a more free, just, and equitable world...
