Solar Power to the People! Pete and Charlotte O'Neal continue to epitomize the spirit and work of the Black Panther Party. Together with their comrade in arms, geronimo, the O'Neals and the organization they founded, continue to struggle to empower communities. The United African Alliance Community Center has joined with the Foundation in an ambitious project to bring solar energy to a rural village in northern Tanzania. The project aims to bring solar electricity to families that can not afford electricity and often live off the national power grid. The families in this households have often lived their entire lives without electricity in the home. This makes it difficult for children to study and families to bond. In a country so close to the equator, solar power seems like an obvious answer. We are currently engaged in delivering and installing units to 85 households in the village. Check out our solar page to learn more.... To learn more about Tanzania in general, check out RealBongo.com.
KIWAWA SHULE continues to grow!!! Check out the progress that has happened at Kiwawa Shule, a small public elementary school that Kuji has helped develop. Students used to have to go to school in shifts because there just wasn't enough classroom space. But as more concerned and committed people get involve, the school will continue to grow and better be able to meet the needs of the students it serves. We have posted more pics on the Tanzania page...

The Kuji Foundation was established in 1999 in
Morgan City, Louisiana. We are a small, community based organization
operated solely by volunteers. We began our work the Lower Atchafalaya River
basin of Louisiana. Over the years Kuji has developed a global network of
friends, supporters an volunteers. Our main focus is now in Africa.
The continent is like no other place in the world and holds such great
potential and desire to grow. Kuji sponsors projects in both East and West
Africa. In Arusha,Tanzania, Kuji has formed a partnership with The United African Alliance Community Center (UAACC) . In April 2002 we started the Imbaseni Village Water Project. Amazingly, by July 2002 our efforts had successfully brought water to an East African village! In April 2003 we kicked off the Staying Healthy Staying Alive campaign. It is an AIDS awareness campaign aimed at the youth of rural Tanzania. In Accra, Ghana Kuji sponsors a small Cassava farm in the Nsawam region. Recognizing the necessity for sustainable-development and it's connection to self-determination and better living conditions, our goal is to provide the start-up resources for several community run cassava processing centers on small farms in rural areas of Accra. We are a small organization able to avoid the bureaucracy that handicaps many larger organizations. We prefer a hands on approach to helping communities that are in need. We go directly to the people and find out what they really need and recruit our volunteers from within that same community. Our mission is to help people help themselves. In keeping with our guiding principle, Ujima , we believe it is ones responsibility to better their own community so that the next generation can benefit and do the same. Don't just give hungry people fish, teach them how to fish so that they can feed themselves. That is KUJICHAGULIA.
